Your Legal Cloud Nine

What puts you on cloud nine in your professional life?  Is it  a successful settlement, winning a motion, calming a client’s fears?  For most litigators, it is winning in court.

Last year, I represented myself in a small civil matter (less than $17,000) in magistrate court.  Yes, I know what they say about someone who represents herself.  I did purchase unbundled legal services from one of the best litigators I know.  He advised me to go to magistrate court pro se and if I lost I would could go to superior court with a trial de novo in which he would represent me fully.

I put the entire case together myself and had the attorney review it.  He assured me that I was well prepared and the existing case law was in my favor.  But, what he said to me next stuck with me, “If the judge rules in your favor, you are going to be on a legal cloud nine and there is nothing like it.”

The opposing party was represented by a partner in a small firm which was very intimidating to me.  Mediation was unsuccessful, but it gave me a practice run at my case presentation.  I had my day in court, a short trial with three witnesses and ten exhibits in front of a magistrate judge.  The judge ruled in my favor on every point and for every penny.

And then it happened, I was on legal cloud nine.

I immediately called my attorney.  He told me that he sometimes gets burned out on practicing law, but when he wins a trial that legal cloud nine feeling keeps him coming back for more.

As a freelance paralegal, helping my clients get to their cloud nine IS my cloud nine. My clients outsource work to me that they are less passionate about.  This frees them up to do the work  they really enjoy.  Working with me also helps their practice become more profitable because they stop working on tasks below their hourly rate.

Do you want to spend more time doing the work you love?  Then contact me, it is very easy.
